PANERIAI - Unfortunately arrived here on Easter Sunday and the museum was closed. Over 100,000 people were murdered by the Nazis between July 1941 and July 1944 at this site which is 10 km southwest of Vilnius. Around half of the city's Jewish population - about 35,000 people - had been murdered here by the end of the first three months of the German occupation. Plaques in Lithuanian, Hebrew, and Russian, honor those who were killed here.
