Russian Market

The Russian Market offers the same items for sale as the Central Market but on a much smaller scale.

Black More Morris Dancers from Essex, England

These artists choose a different location every year and put on a "street performance." They chose to perform outside the Powder Tower which is the oldest object of the fortification system. (A photo of which will come later.)

Old Town Riga Street Vendors

Old Town street vendors - selling amber jewelry, knitted socks/slippers/mittens/hats/and other little souvenirs.

Old Town Riga

Backside of St. Peter's Church, dating to 1209, one of the oldest churches in Riga. St. Peter's tower is the highest point in the panorama of the Old Town. It is a great landmark to use while weaving in and out of the cobblestone streets.

Ferry to Stockholm/docked in Riga

Ferry Romantika docked in Riga. This ferry departs Riga at 5:30 pm and arrives in Stockholm, Sweden at 9:30 am next morning.

Downtown Riga, Latvia

Misc. photos: of the city, also of the major roadway and bridge crossing the mighty Daugava River.

Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Located on the Esplanade

The Russian Orthodox Cathedral is located at one end of a large park, the Esplanade. The church is from the 19th Century and during Russian occupation, the church was used as a planetarium. It is here that my master, Diana, is dropped off or catches the bus to return home. Using mass transit is far easier than having a car in the Old Town or downtown Riga. Finding a legal parking place is difficult and also expensive. Just ask Ed, he has already paid 15 Lats to have a bright pink boot removed from our car.

Riga, Latvia Central Market

Some of the vendors who are set up outside the large zeppelin hangars.

Riga, Latvia Central Market

A cheese vendor/bread vendor/honey stand all inside the Central Market. Riga brought in 5 enormous zeppelin hangars from the town of Vainode to handle the ever expanding market. There is over 57,000 square meters of space inside the hangars as well as plenty of room outside for additional vendors to sell their goods. A wonderful fun place to spend some time and also pick up items for dinner.
